The brief
Garden room extension
A light-filled garden room extension designed to create a stronger connection between the home and garden.
The brief was to introduce a generous new living space that feels closely connected to the existing house, while making the most of the garden setting and available natural light.
The extension provides a flexible space for everyday living, dining and entertaining, with large areas of glazing opening views towards the garden and bringing daylight deep into the interior.
Careful consideration was given to the relationship between the new and existing parts of the house. The extension is designed as a natural continuation of the home, with materials, proportions and detailing chosen to complement the original architecture without attempting to replicate it.
Large openings create a seamless relationship between inside and out, allowing the garden to become an extension of the living space during the warmer months. Internally, a simple material palette and considered joinery keep the space calm, practical and uncluttered.
The result is a contemporary addition that feels embedded within its setting — creating a new room for living while strengthening the connection between the house, garden and wider landscape.
